THE SYMBOL OF ARTSAKH – “We and Our Mountains”

The symbol of Artsakh is the monument “We and Our Mountains”.
The sculpture completed by Sargis Baghdasaryanon in 1967
People often call him “Dedo-babo” or “Tatik-papik” (“Grandma-grandpa”).
This is a symbol of the roots of the Armenian people on the Artsakh land.
The Tatik and Papik monument has become a true symbol of Artsakh and the unbending spirit of the Armenian people!

On September 29, 2023, officials from Azerbaijan placed the flag of Azerbaijan on the monument. This occurred on the same day that the terrorist  Azerbaijani government took control of Stepanakert. This occurred after the Azerbaijani military offensive in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic of Artsakh, which had been carried out ten days earlier, and the subsequent flight of the Armenian population. It has been brought to people’s attention that Azerbaijan might destroy the monument. Instead, the Azerbaijani government would take possession of the monument, asserting that “it was built in the city of “Khankendi” which is Armenian occupied currently Stepanakert in Azerbaijan in 1967 and that it is one of the many examples of Azerbaijan’s tolerance of multicultural and national-religious monument.” In addition, the Azerbaijani government would assert that the monument had been “Armenianized” and had always been a genuine Azerbaijani symbol.  Azerbaijan government  continues to destroy and or appropriate everything Armenian build as their own until we take it all back.
