All Savior Armenian Apostolic Monastery

The destroyed Armenian Apostolic Monastery of the All Savior , near Trebizond currently occupied Western Armenia by genocidal (Turkey). The oldest building in the complex dates back to 1424. In 1461 it was plundered and destroyed by the Turks. In the 16th century, the rebuilt monastery became a center for the production of Armenian manuscripts.

Inside the church is decorated with elaborate frescoes depicting various biblical scenes. It is believed that they were written in the 17th and 18th centuries. On the western wall there is a large fresco in three sections depicting the Last Judgment.

Until 1915, it served as the seat of the Diocese of Trebizond. At that time, the Armenian community of the city numbered 30,000 people. In 1915, the normal functioning of the monastery was interrupted – it began to be used as a transit camp for Armenians deported to Syria during the genocide..
