The photo was taken in Van. In the photo there is an armed Armenian woman from Shatakh with her son. During the Armenian pogroms, all her relatives were killed.
She takes her only son and runs to the mountains. Kurdish thieves are chasing them with the goal of killing her and stealing her son to sell into slavery. Alone, this legendary woman fights a gang of killers from the Shatakh mountains to the city of Van. Armenian self-defense joins in Van.
After turks and kurds kill many Armenias, she leaves the city with her son and other survivors.
How she protected her son and with what cunning she deceived the Kurdish and Turkish murderers is told with particular pride by her descendants, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her son.
This woman’s name was Tankik.
