KIRANTS MONASTERY

The medieval Chalcedonian monastery of Kirants is located 12 km west of the village of the same name in the Armenian region of Tavush. The monastery complex, built in the 13th century, is one of the valuable architectural monuments of medieval Armenia. Once upon a time, a high wall rose around the Kirants monastery, unfortunately, only ruins have remained of it to our time. The complex includes the following buildings: three churches, two vestibules, a refectory, and several premises that served for housing and various household purposes. To this day, the arched gates of the monastery, which open towards the southwest, have also been well preserved. An old cemetery has been preserved on the territory of the Kirants monastery, where you can see the tombstone of one of the archimandrites, which is dated 1698
